Who we are
Osaro Labs is at the beginning of its journey. We are an emerging scientific research initiative, rooted in Nigeria, shaped by a simple conviction: that Africa’s rainforests hold knowledge the world urgently needs, and that the people best placed to uncover it are those who live beside them.
Our long-term vision spans biodiversity discovery, environmental conservation, biotechnology and scientific education, alongside sustainable research and commercial capabilities. Today, that vision is taking shape as proposed research directions and careful planning, not yet as laboratories, programmes or completed work. We share this early stage openly, because honesty about where an institution stands is part of the science we hope to practise.

Illustrative river landscape. Not a photograph of the Okomu region.
The landscape
South-western Nigeria holds one of the country’s most important remnants of lowland rainforest. The Okomu region, with its protected forest blocks and surrounding rural communities, is where our proposed biodiversity and ecological research would begin: cataloguing species, observing forest dynamics and understanding how conservation and local livelihoods can strengthen one another.
This is a proposed first geography, chosen for its ecological significance and our roots in the state, not an established field programme.

Founding programme
We are developing an initial research concept focused on forest health and biodiversity in the Okomu region of Edo State, Nigeria. The proposed programme would combine forest observations, fungal biodiversity documentation and selected environmental indicators to begin building a scientific baseline.
We are seeking conversations with researchers, institutions and conservation organisations who share an interest in West African biodiversity.
